Daytona Beach, FL - The $400 million DIS track overhaul project called “Daytona Rising” has hit the two-year mark ahead of expected completion in time for the 2016 Daytona 500. Track officials sent out an update Friday and photos of the ongoing work.
DIS officials say as of now, 40,00 new seats have been installed near the west end of the track and 14,000 in the east end. Also complete are new concessions, restrooms and several of what are called “neighborhood” areas for fans. Work still to come includes completion of escalator installations, a solar array structure, trackside suite tower glass and development of hospitality areas/suites.
“We’re thrilled to reach the two-year mark in the DAYTONA Rising project,” said Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III. “We will keep up the momentum and remain on schedule so that our fans can see the world’s first motorsports stadium in January 2016.”
