Ormond Beach, FL – A 28-year-old man is seriously hurt after his vehicle ended up underneath a semi carrying beer on US 1 in Ormond Beach.
Jonathan Kinsler was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center as a trauma alert by paramedics soon after the accident happened around 7am Friday on the 1190 block of North US 1, near the Hawaiian Tropic store at Wall Avenue.
Ormond Beach Police Department Officer Keith Walker says investigators are still working the case.
“A tractor-trailer was stopped blocking both southbound lanes of US 1 when a passenger vehicle impacted the middle of the trailer,” Walker noted. “No citations have been issued at this time.”
The impact knocked the truck’s saddle gas tank off and Volusia County HazMat units came out to clean up the resulting fuel spill.
The accident kept all southbound lanes closed for over 4 hours, with traffic not allowed to go through that area until around 11:30am Friday, per Walker.
Kinsler is in critical condition as of 4:30pm Friday, according to Walker.
Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call OBPD at 386-677-0731 if they haven’t already spoken to investigators.
