Ormond Beach, FL – 2 people were rescued from the Halifax River in Ormond Beach after jumping off of a burning boat.
The Ormond Beach Fire Department says it happened around 11:30am Wednesday around a half-mile south of the Granada Boulevard Bridge.
“The boat appeared to be a Bay Liner, approximately 22 feet,” stated OBFD spokeswoman Loretta Moisio.
Neither of the people rescued needed medical attention, according to Volusia County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Andrew Gant.
A spokesman with Volusia County’s firefighters’ union says the person who called for help told dispatchers people were jumping off the boat as smoke and flames consumed the boat.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commissioner officers were questioning the people on board after they managed to get to shore safely.
It’s unclear at this time what started the fire.
No injuries have been reported.
