Daytona Beach, FL – Detectives are searching for a Daytona Beach man that they think stole hundreds of dollars in cigarettes from at least 3 Daytona Beach stores in the past month.
The Daytona Beach Police Department plans to charge 40-year-old Brian N. Durrance of Phoenix Avenue with a probation violation as well as for those thefts once he’s found.
DBPD released security video footage on Wednesday showing a man officers say stole numerous cigarette packs from the Walgreens store near the corner of Beville Road and Clyde Morris Boulevard on July 30th. That video is posted above this article.
Officers think Durrance is the suspect shown in those videos as well as the man responsible for similar thefts the same day at the Sunoco on the corner of Bellevue Avenue and South Nova Road and on August 2nd at the Sunoco on the corner of West International Speedway Boulevard and Bill France Boulevard, right across from Daytona International Speedway.
According to the incident reports, the suspect came up to the checkout counter in 2 of those incidents and swiped a credit card as if to pay for the cigarettes, but then ran off with the cigarette cartons after the card declined.
In another incident, DBPD says Durrance took a cigarette carton to the checkout counter and then ran off with it without paying after getting the cashier to turn around when he requested another item that was behind her.
Durrance is described as a white man who stands 5’11 and weighs around 140 pounds. He’s mostly bald with dark hair and blue eyes.
Volusia County Jail records show Durrance has been booked there 5 times since May 2012, including last July 27th on a petit theft charge. The other 4 bookings were all on forgery charges or violation of probation on a forgery charge.
Anyone with information is asked to call DBPD Detective Scott Frantz at 386-671-5100 or email frantzs@dbpd.us. Those who want to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 888-277-8477 and possibly qualify for a cash reward.
