Daytona Beach, FL – An inmate at Volusia County Jail is suing the county for not giving him dental floss.

Kelsey Turner is seeking a $150,000 judgement plus court costs, claiming the county was negligent and caused damage to his teeth by not providing dental floss to inmates.

A 2-page handwritten lawsuit was filed on August 3rd by Turner in Florida’s 7th Circuit Court where he says he’s developed multiple cavities and lost pre-existing tooth fillings, leaving “embarrassing holes” in his teeth.

Turner was arrested in October 2013 on numerous charges, including burglary, dealing in stolen property and aggravated child abuse. He’s been held without bond ever since.

The DeLand Police Department says Turner beat a 5-year-old so bad he almost died and then made the boy use fake tattoos to cover the bruises.

VCJ records show Turner’s been booked there 8 other times since August 2007 on a host of charges, including making or possessing a destructive device, stalking, forgery, defrauding a pawn shop and petit theft.

County officials say a copy of the lawsuit hasn’t been served to them yet.
