railroad drawbridge near US 17 & I-4

Deltona, FL – A big part of the St. Johns River will be closed off to most boats until the end of August.

The Florida Department of Transportation plans to close the railroad drawbridge spanning the river between Volusia and Seminole counties on Sunday and keep it closed until at least August 29th.

FDOT says the drawbridge – which runs parallel to US 17 near Lake Monroe and can be seen from the Interstate 4 bridge that connects Volusia to Seminole – will be locked in the “down” position for the next 2 weeks while necessary mechanical repairs are made.

While the bridge is locked, any marine vessels taller than 8 feet and 6 inches won’t be able to sail under the drawbridge. Those under that height can sail through the area.

Railroad traffic – including SunRail commuter rail service – shouldn’t be affected by the bridge work.

That railroad is the one SunRail uses to go to and from the DeBary station, which is the only one in Volusia.
