Holly Hill, FL – An auto detailing shop in Holly Hill served as a front for a massive marijuana trafficking operation in East Volusia for the past 5 years.
That’s the word from the Volusia Bureau of Investigation as it announced the arrest of 6 people and the seizure of 237 pounds of marijuana, $539,000 in cash and a 2012 Fisker Karma valued at $100,000 on Friday.
The VBI is a group of 10 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies that work together to stop narcotics trafficking, racketeering and organized crime.
Members of the VBI are the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Florida Attorneys General’s Office, Homeland Security, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and the police departments of Daytona Beach, Daytona Beach Shores, DeLand, Edgewater and New Smyrna Beach.
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Andrew Gant says “Operation Miller High Life” took down an organization responsible for distributing major amounts of marijuana locally since at least 2010.
“The VBI initiated its investigation in April 2014 in conjunction with the Office of the State Attorney for the 7th Judicial Circuit,” Gant stated. “At that time, the evidence indicated that the group was responsible for distributing several hundred pounds of marijuana on a monthly basis.”
Investigators named the operation for Glenn David Miller, a 37-year-old Southeast Volusia resident who is one of the 6 arrested and who operated Dolla Auto Detailing on Carswell Avenue in Holly Hill, a business that Gant says was a front for the marijuana operation.
“In July of 2014, Miller and his wife were pulled over on an interstate highway in Texas, where state troopers found more than $17,000 in cash,” Gant added. “A K-9 trained in searching for narcotics alerted to both the vehicle and the cash.”
The VBI took over from there, eventually tracing the source of the money to the drug sales and to the auto detailing shop, according to Gant.
This isn’t the first time Miller’s been in trouble with the law in Volusia. VCSO charged him in 2011 after a raid at his Daytona Beach home turned up 6 pounds of marijuana, $2,800 in cash, digital scales, packaging material, a ledger and a handgun with ammunition.
Miller was arrested July 21st and has since posted bond and left Volusia County Jail. He’s facing 23 separate charges, including 9 counts of conspiracy to sell and deliver cannabis, 4 counts of sale of cannabis, 2 counts of conspiracy to traffic in cannabis, 2 counts of trafficking in cannabis, possession of cannabis with intent to sell, possession of a structure and vehicle known to traffic in drugs, possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, fleeing & eluding and use of a 2-way communication device while committing a felony.
The other 5 arrests are tied into the operation and more arrests are coming soon, according to Gant.
