Oak Hill, FL – The 41-year-old girlfriend of an Oak Hill man charged with murder is now facing charges of her own in that fatal stabbing in Oak Hill last weekend.
Tamara Ann Rogers was arrested Friday night at the home she shares with Paul Thompson by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office and charged with accessory to murder and knowingly giving false information to law enforcement.
VCSO spokesman Andrew Gant says Rogers has repeatedly changed her story since investigators found 26-year-old Scott Ramsey of Oak Hill dead following a street fight on the 300 block of Beehive Drive last Sunday (August 9th).
“She initially denied that she had assisted Thompson in escaping the area of the crime and denied that she helped him avoid detection by law enforcement,” Gant noted. “As investigators continued to work the case, the evidence revealed that Rogers was not being truthful.”
The 37-year-old Thompson was caught less than 24 hours after Ramsey’s murder by VCSO at a home in Edgewater and charged with second-degree murder as well as attempted second-degree murder for stabbing 22-year-old Donald Smith of Jacksonville during that same fight. Smith went to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach as a trauma alert from the scene.
Witnesses told VCSO at the time that they saw Thompson get into an argument with Ramsay and Scott in the front lawn of a home on Beehive Drive as Thompson rode his bicycle through the area. It was during that argument when VCSO believes a physical fight broke out between the 3 men and Thompson stabbed both men in the neck with a homemade folding knife before pedaling away.
“After deputies tracked down Thompson, he told them he had returned to his home with the help of Rogers and that he’d given her specific details about the incident and where certain evidence was hidden,” Gant said. “He said she drove him to an abandoned building within sight of the crime scene where he was able to see law enforcement and emergency medical vehicles.”
Investigators also believe Rogers texted her boyfriend with information about the kinds of questions VCSO was asking her about the incident and the search warrants VCSO was trying to get signed by a judge.
Rogers refused to speak with an investigator following her arrest, per Gant.
Thompson is held without bond at Volusia County Jail, while Rogers has yet to be processed as of 8:15pm Friday.
VCJ records show Rogers has been booked there 2 times this year, including last May on 5 drug-related counts. Among those counts were possession of prescription pills, marijuana and methamphetamine. She was also booked last January for driving with a suspended license.
