Ormond Beach, FL – One of the area’s biggest hubs when Bike Week and Biketoberfest comes around is now in the hands of Ormond Beach.

By unanimous vote during Tuesday night’s meeting, the Ormond Beach City Commission approved the annexation of Destination Daytona near the corner of Interstate 95 and US 1.

Destination Daytona will now become part of the city’s Zone 1, as will the nearby Broken Spoke Saloon and another parcel of land known as Destination Daytona Phase II. All of those properties were annexed by a 5-0 vote during the meeting.

Tuesday’s ordinance reading annexing Destination Daytona – a large retail area created by the late Bruce Rossmeyer when he moved his Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealership there – was the second reading. The first was during the July 28th meeting.

City officials say annexing Destination Daytona – which was in the unincorporated part of Volusia County – will provide a significant boost to the city’s tax base and may provide some long-term tax relief to residents.

Where it will likely not provide relief is to the city’s police department. It will now be OBPD instead of the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office who will provide law enforcement for a location that is often among the rowdiest in Volusia County during the big motorcycle rallies that attract hundreds of thousands of visitors every year during the spring and fall.
