Daytona Beach, FL – A Daytona Beach man is facing charges over a year after police say his attack on another man eventually caused that man’s death.

Brandon S. Suchoza was booked at Volusia County Jail on Sunday and is held without bond on a manslaughter charge as of 12:30pm Monday.

The 41-year-old man was arrested after the Daytona Beach Police Department investigated the death of one of his neighbors, 58-year-old Lee C. Manahan.

According to the arrest report, Suchoza and Manahan both lived at an apartment complex on North Grandview Avenue when they got into a physical fight around 5:30am on June 14, 2014.

Officers sent to the scene in response to a 911 call from Suchoza found Manahan unresponsive as he lay on the second-floor landing.

Paramedics took Manahan to Halifax Health Medical Center from the scene, where he died later that day after doctors say Manahan had an “unsurvivable” brain injury.

When questioned afterward, Suchoza claimed self-defense, saying he punched Manahan in the jaw after Manahan pushed him down twice while both men were climbing a set of stairs.

A witness told police, however, that Suchoza came running up the stairs after getting into a shouting match with Manahan and that’s when Suchoza hit Manahan in the head and pushed him to the ground.

It isn’t clear from the arrest report what the 2 men were arguing about.
