Port Orange, FL – A Port Orange woman ends up in jail after officers say she was caught driving drunk with her 3-year-old son in the car.

Ladonna M. James was arrested around 1:30am Saturday at Port Orange Police Department headquarters on South Clyde Morris Boulevard.

The Port Orange Police Department says an officer pulled James’ vehicle over earlier that night on 5th Street near Sugar Mill Elementary School when the officer spotted a person in the front passenger seat who was not wearing a seat belt.

It was at that point when the officer discovered the 29-year-old James was driving with a suspended license and suspected that she was drunk, according to the arrest report.

The report also noted that James’ 3-year-old son was in the vehicle at the time and that the Department of Children & Families has been notified about the incident.

POPD says James blew a .188 and .184 on a Breathalyzer less than 30 minutes after the accident. Both those results are well over the legal limit.

James’ arrest report also noted that she failed field sobriety exercises and showed other signs of impairment, including slow & slurred speech, bloodshot & watery eyes and droopy eyelids.

As of 5:30pm Monday, James is held without bond at Volusia County Jail on charges of felony driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and child neglect.

VCJ records also show James was arrested last May for DUI and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.

The passenger was ticketed for the seat belt violation, according to POPD.
