Daytona Beach, FL-Early this morning, FDLE agents arrested a serial bank burglary suspect in Daytona Beach. 49-year-old Gene Alfonso Schuler was taken into custody while he was burglarizing the Fifth Third Bank at 1179 Beville Road around 3 AM.
Schuler was released from federal prison in June after serving a sentence for bank burglaries.
Agents say Schuler was taken into custody after he broke through a bank window and circumvented the security system. FDLE agents were watching the bank branch early today when Schuler broke in. Agents say they’ve been investigating Schuler in recent months and think he’s behind as many as two dozen bank burglaries in Florida since he was released from prison.
Schuler was transported to the Volusia County Jail Substation. He’s charged with counts including burglary of a structure or conveyance, grand theft and possession of burglary tools.
