Daytona Beach, FL – Expect gasoline prices to drop below $2 a gallon very soon.
That’s the word from both Florida Gas Buddy and AAA as gas prices continue to sink across the board both nationwide and locally.
The latest AAA Fuel Gauge Report shows that the Daytona Beach area is averaging $2.14 a gallon for regular unleaded, 6 cents less than a week ago and 25 cents less than a month ago.
Other types of gasoline have also mirrored that downward slide, with mid-grade in the Daytona Beach area selling for an average of $2.50, diesel at $2.52 and premium at $2.73.
AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins says it won’t be long before gas at under $2 a gallon will be the norm in the southeastern United States, especially if the current half-cent per day rate of decline holds.
“Prices at the pump are typically their lowest during the fall and winter seasons because fewer Americans take extended road trips, leading to declines in demand,” Jenkins added. “Plus, oil prices are especially low right now due to a wealth in global supply.”
The average gas price in Florida has fallen 92 of the past 94 days, dropping a total of 57 cents during that time, per AAA. That comes despite the price of oil averaging $45.46 last week, which is an increase of 30 cents compared to the week before.
American motorists are currently saving $15 to $25 on a full tank of gas compared to this time last year, per AAA.
Patrick Dehaan with Florida Gas Buddy says the switch from summer blend to winter blend is also keeping prices low.
“In Florida, we may see sub $2 a gallon averages return in the next 2 weeks,” Dehaan noted.
Some parts of Florida – especially around the Tampa area – are already seeing gas price averages falling under $2 a gallon, according to Florida Gas Buddy.
