Palm Coast, FL – Investigators want to know who dumped a huge amount of old tires in a wooded area earlier this month.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office says over 18 tons of worn rubber tires were found along the 800 block of North Old Kings Road on September 1st.
FCSO spokesman Jim Troiano says the tires were left near a gate in a wooded area between Matanzas Woods Parkway and the Princess Place Preserve.
“It is believed the person or persons unknown used a large trailer to unload the tires at one time,” Troiano noted.
Flagler County spent over $4,600 to clean the area and take the tires to a landfill in Volusia County, according to Flagler County Administrator Craig Coffey.
“Flagler County has a recycling and household hazardous waste collection facility, so it’s a shame that someone chose to dump the tires here,” Coffey added.
FCSO believes whoever dumped the tires did so sometime between the evening of August 30th and the early morning hours of August 31st.
FCSO and the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission are investigating.
