Flagler County, FL-Authorities in Flagler County are warning local businesses to be wary of anyone trying to sell advertising at high school football games. Flagler County Schools says at least 1 business has lost “significant” money recently to scammers who were pretending to sell banner ads for the football stadium at Palm Coast High School. FCS spokesman Jason Wheeler says another business was also recently approached by these scammers, but no money was exchanged in that incident. “It is the policy of Flagler Palm Coast High School’s athletic department that all advertising and banner sales go through the athletic department and not a third-party vendor,” Wheeler added. “This person has not contacted Flagler Schools about their service, is not affiliated with the District and has no advertising contract with any of our schools.”

Wheeler noted that the scam was first discovered when the business that lost money called the school irate that their ads weren’t being displayed at the stadium. “Flagler Schools has made the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office aware of this situation,” Wheeler stated. “They would also like to speak with anyone who paid money to an outside company or person making such promises.” The business that was victimized was also encouraged to file a report with FCSO, per Wheeler. “If you have any question regarding the legitimacy of an advertising offer at one of our schools, please contact the school directly,” Wheeler said. Anyone with information or who wants to report such an incident can call FCSO at 386-437-4116 or FCS attorney Kristy Gavin at 386-437-7526, extension 3130.
