Volusia County, FL – Meteorologists are warning about floods on the east and west sides of Volusia County.
The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory until midnight Wednesday covering Volusia and Flagler counties as well as a Flood Warning along the St. Johns River until further notice.
NWS says to expect high water levels along the coast and the Intracoastal Waterway during high tide due to the lunar cycle as well as a swell from the northeast. High tide is forecast between 9pm and 10pm Tuesday.
Officials expect typically vulnerable areas along beachside and the ICW to get flooded as well as heavy wave runup on the beaches, possibly all the way to the dunes and the seawalls.
The Flood Warning along the St. Johns River is primarily focused around Astor, with the river being around 3 feet higher than normal lately due to recent heavy rains and tidal effects.
NWS says river levels have remained steady throughout the week and that minor flooding is expected to continue through the upcoming weekend, especially from River Road northward.
Parts of Volusia – including South Moon Fish Camp, Blair’s Jungle Den and several homes along the river – have been affected by flooding along the river, as has parts of Lake County near Astor.
