DeLeon Springs, FL – An autopsy shows that an elderly couple’s death in DeLeon Springs is consistent with a murder-suicide.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office says 83-year-old Foye Stacey and 83-year-old Jenella Stacey were found dead when deputies entered their Winona Trail home just after 7 o’clock Wednesday night.
VCSO spokesman Gary Davidson says responding deputies were sent to the home to do a well-being check at the request of the couple’s son.
“He said that he had just received an e-mail from his father saying that he had shot his wife,” Davidson added. “In the e-mail, the father also made reference to both of them being dead, leading the son to believe that his father was also planning to take his own life.”
The couple’s son also told VCSO that he last spoke to his mother on Tuesday and everything seemed fine, but he decided to call VCSO when phone calls to the house went unanswered after he received the email.
A VCSO report shows that the son told deputies that his father had just been released from the hospital after suffering a possible stroke and that his father had just been recently diagnosed with a brain tumor.
