Ponce Inlet, FL - After only a month in rehabilitation, “Francis”, a juvenile Green Sea Turtle, is set to be released Thursday if conditions allow.
The Marine Science Center says the turtle has made a full recovery after being found in late September stranded on the beach in New Smyrna Beach with an old healing injury to a back left flipper that left it partially amputated.
The turtle was tube fed and passed a piece of plastic wrapper that turtle experts think may have been blocking proper digestion.
The release is scheduled for 3 PM at the Beach Street ramp access in Ponce Inlet. The release will be on the north side of the ramp away from the driving area.
The release is open to the public.
MSC planned to do the release on Tuesday but had to postpone due to expected rough weather.
