Daytona Beach, FL – A Deltona man faces numerous charges after deputies say he stole a car and hid marijuana in his rectum.
As of 4:30pm Monday, 32-year-old Hugh A. Stewart is held without bond at Volusia County Jail on a grand theft auto charge as well as marijuana possession and introducing contraband into a detention facility.
The arrest report shows Stewart also had 6 separate open arrest warrants in Volusia and Seminole counties, all for failing to appear in court on 3 other charges of grand theft auto, grand theft, felony petit theft and failing to return leased equipment.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office says Stewart was found at a Motel 6 on West International Speedway Boulevard around 9:30pm Saturday after a Daytona Beach Police Department officer found a stolen silver Chrysler 300 in the parking lot.
According to the report, Stewart had the key to the stolen vehicle in a pocket. It also noted that VCJ staff found 22 grams of marijuana in a plastic bag hidden in his rectum when he was strip searched while being processed.
Stewart did speak to VCSO deputies, but most of his statement was redacted from the report. It did note that he gave VCSO consent to search his motel room.
VCJ records show Stewart’s been booked there 20 other times since April 2001.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement says Stewart was sentenced to 4 years in prison in May 2009 on a gun-related charge. He was released in April 2013.
