Daytona Beach, FL – An Orlando man gets 15 years in prison with no chance of parole for stalking an ex-girlfriend.

48-year-old Brenson Burns learned his fate on Tuesday during a sentencing hearing in front of 7th Circuit Judge Frank Marriott.

A Volusia County jury found Burns guilty in August of burglary and aggravated stalking, according to Spencer Hathaway, a spokesman for 7th Circuit State Attorney RJ Larizza.

“Prosecutors proved today that Burns was a Prison Releasee Reoffender, which is a sentencing enhancement that requires a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison,” Hathaway noted.

The Daytona Beach Police Department says there was a court order prohibiting Burns from contacting his ex-girlfriend when he came onto her property last October 30th.

According to the arrest report, Burns entered the screened-in back porch in the home and then ran off when he was spotted by his ex-girlfriend and her sister peering into the home’s windows.

Burns was initially arrested on misdemeanor charges, but Hathaway said those were upgraded by prosecutors when reviewing the case.

“Burns was previously convicted and served time in prison for a number of crimes, including attempted murder and armed burglary,” Hathaway stated.
