Daytona Beach, FL – 2 people are hurt and a man driving a school bus gets a ticket after that bus struck 2 other vehicles on Interstate 95 near Daytona Beach.
That’s the word from the Florida Highway Patrol following the 3-vehicle wreck which happened just after 9am Thursday on Mile Marker 260. That’s near where I-95 meets Interstate 4.
FHP Sergeant Kim Montes says 46-year-old Alfonso Guardado of Virginia was driving a 2001 International yellow school bus southbound in the left center lane when it rear-ended a 2007 Nissan 4-door vehicle that had slowed down for traffic.
“[It] was a bus that was purchased by a car dealer and was being transported from Virginia to Florida to be exported overseas,” Montes added.
After hitting the Nissan, the bus then rear-ended a 2007 Toyota 4-door vehicle and then went through the center median, going through the guardrail before crossing all the northbound lanes and coming to a stop.
“No vehicles in the northbound lanes were struck,” Montes noted.
No one else was on the bus besides Guardado, who was ticketed for careless driving and for not having a commercial driver’s license.
Guardado and the driver of the Nissan – 53-year-old Jeffrey Gasaway of Jacksonville – each had minor injuries and were taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach by paramedics.
The driver of the Toyota – 87-year-old Thomas Price of Port Orange – wasn’t hurt, per the accident report.
Troopers believe alcohol nor drugs were a factor and that all 3 drivers were wearing seat belts when the accident happened.
The Nissan and the Toyota had no passengers at the time of the crash, per FHP.
