Daytona Beach, FL – Someone apparently placed a prank phone call saying someone was shot at a Daytona Beach home.
A brief standoff at a home on the 1900 block of Cedar Street Sunday night ended with no victim found and no arrest made, according to a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office report.
VCSO deputies and members of the Daytona Beach, South Daytona and Port Orange police departments responded to the home just before 7pm Sunday at the request of Volusia County dispatchers.
According to the incident report, VC Central Dispatch received a call on the non-emergency line from a man saying he had just shot his dad with an assault rifle and he was not breathing.
It was soon after officers arrived when a 51-year-old man stepped out of the home to smoke and deputies came up to speak to him, his wife and 22-year-old step-son. There were 2 other children in the home at the time, per the report.
Officers believe the person who made the prank call – something also known as “swatting” – may have been someone the step-son knows from playing video games online.
According to the report, the 22-year-old claimed he didn’t make the call but suspected “several enemies” he plays League of Legends and World of Warcraft with online may have because they don’t like him.
The step-son noted that he doesn’t know these people personally and that he often played “aggressive” with them and argued with them through Internet chats.
Investigators are trying to find the person who made that phone call.
