Daytona Beach, FL – No one was seriously hurt after several shots were fired during an argument between a group of people near Bethune-Cookman University.

The Daytona Beach Police Department says it happened around 9:45 Halloween night on the 200 block of North Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard.

According to the incident report, a 17-year-old Daytona Beach boy was walking south on the west side of MLK near the Judson M. Phillips Development Building when he got into an argument with a man and that man hit the teen in the face with a glass beer bottle.

Officers believe the 17-year-old left the area but then came back a few minutes later with 2 others – a 16-year-old boy from Holly Hill and a 22-year-old Daytona Beach man – to confront the man who hit him with the Heineken bottle.

It was at that point, per the report, when the first suspect and another man took out guns, firing several shots at the 3 victims as they ran from the scene on foot.

DBPD believes the suspects – described in the report only as black males wearing white shirts – then left the area, either on foot through the BCU campus heading west or in a red Nissan Altima with no window tints.

Police recovered 4 .45 caliber shell casings from the scene as well as the glass bottle used in the attack as part of the investigation.

None of the bullets struck the victims, though one of them did hit the rear windshield of a blue 2006 Suzuki vehicle parked nearby. DBPD says the owner of that vehicle was out of town at the time and doesn’t appear to be involved in the incident otherwise.

No injuries were reported other than the 17-year-old going to the hospital to get treatment for a small cut near his right eye.
