Bunnell, FL – The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office gets a new home and Florida’s top elected official was there to celebrate it.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the FCSO Operations Center on East Moody Boulevard in Bunnell took place Tuesday morning.
The ceremony was initially scheduled for 10am, but it was pushed back an hour so that Florida Governor Rick Scott could attend, according to Flagler County Administrator Craig Coffey.
“We got word from his office that a conflict prevents him from being there before 11am,” Coffey added.
Other elected officials joined the Republican Governor in opening the facility, including Flagler County Commission Chairman Frank Meeker, Palm Coast Mayor Jon Netts, Bunnell Mayor Catherine Robinson and Flagler County Sheriff Jim Manfre.
Tours of the 34,000 square foot facility were available after the ribbon cutting and a medal ceremony honoring FCSO Deputy Harold “Nate” Smith” for trying to save the life of a driver who went into a canal over a year ago.
Even though the ribbon-cutting is on Tuesday, FCSO moved into the Operations Center last month, formerly the site of the old Florida Memorial Hospital until the county purchased it 2 years ago for $1.23 million.
FCSO’s old headquarters on Justice Lane will become the female wing of the Flagler County Jail. A separate jail facility for the men will be placed next door to the Operations Center and likely open either late this year or early next year.
