Daytona Beach, FL – A late-arriving Labor Day weekend helps boost the number of tourists staying at Volusia County hotels.
The latest Mid-Florida Marketing & Research report shows Volusia hotel occupancy jumped up 27% in September 2015 compared to the same month the year before.
Average daily rate per room went up 10% while revenue per available room rose 41% during that same period, per the report.
Mid-Florida President Evelyn Fine thinks the September numbers went up as high as they did because Labor Day came later in September compared to 2014, when the Labor Day weekend impact was primarily felt in August.
“Having said that, this is still a pretty substantial increase in occupancy for [September],” Fine added.
Overall hotel occupancy was at 52% for September, an 11% increase compared to the same month in 2014. That’s also a 5% drop compared to last August and well under the 77% posted for July, which has been the best month so far for Volusia in 2015 other than March’s 80%.
August came in at 57%, which is 3% under the 60% posted for the same month last year.
Volusia’s average daily rate went up to $93.66 in September, a jump of $8.73 compared to the same month last year. Revenue per available room came in at $49.15, a $14.36 increase during the same period.
Year-to-date numbers show Volusia’s hotel occupancy rate at 67%, 1% better than during the same period in 2014 and 5% better than in 2013.
