Port Orange, FL – Port Orange wants help from its residents to fix the recurring flood issues on one of its biggest roads.

A public meeting Tuesday night at City Hall will be about gathering evidence of past flooding along Dunlawton Avenue/State Road 421.

City spokesman Kent Donahue says anyone with pictures or documents of the May 2009 and September 2014 flooding events – especially those showing the water levels between the Florida East Coast Railway and Spruce Creek Road – is encouraged to attend the meeting and bring copies along.

“We’ve had historic flooding in that area, which is a major evacuation route” Donahue added. “We’ve hired a consultant and we’re trying to get a holistic view of what goes on in that area over time.”

Donahue says this is an issue various cities have been dealing with since 2009 since the canal that’s believed to be responsible for most of the flooding runs from Port Orange north to Ormond Beach.

The meeting starts at 5pm in the 2nd floor conference room of City Hall at 1000 City Center Circle.

Anyone with questions is asked to call the city at 386-506-5754.
