New Smyrna Beach, FL – Expect another exit ramp closure on Interstate 95 in Volusia County as part of the ongoing widening project.
The Florida Department of Transportation plans to close the ramp from southbound I-95 to State Road 44 eastbound starting at 8 PM Thursday.
FDOT spokeswoman Jennifer Horton says the ramp will reopen around 5 AM Friday for the daily commute but will have to be closed again at 8 PM Friday.
“This closure will allow for necessary light pole foundations installation work,” Horton added. “Detour signage will be in place.”
Lane Construction Corporation – the company FDOT is using to do the work – should have the ramp re-open for good by 5 AM Saturday, according to Horton.
Drivers who need to go east on SR 44 from I-95 south will be directed to the westbound SR 44 ramp and told to take a U-turn at a nearby median turn out.
The work could be delayed by bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
This construction is part of the $205 million project widening I-95 from 4 lanes to 6 from State Road 44 north to US 92 in Daytona Beach. It’s the only stretch of I-95 in Florida that’s currently less than 6 lanes wide.
