DeBary, FL – Investigators are on the case after a man and a woman were found dead inside a home with no working air conditioning in DeBary.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office says the bodies were found around 1:30pm Thursday at a home on Jasmine Drive in the Lake Marie Estates subdivision.
VCSO spokesman Gary Davidson says it appears that the victims had been dead for some time.
“A deputy and firefighters entered the house to conduct a well-being check and found the 2 bodies,” Davidson stated. “Because of decomposition, deputies were unable to immediately determine who the victims were or how they died.
Some of those deputies and firefighters were in the neighborhood on an unrelated call when a person came up to them and asked them to check on the home, per Davidson.
“[The person] had come to check on the residents and noticed a foul odor coming from the house,” Davidson added.
Davidson says VCSO’s Major Case Unit thinks it knows who the victims area, but their identities aren’t being released at this time even though next-of-kin have been notified.
“We’re [also] waiting until the identities are confirmed through the autopsies before releasing their names,” Davidson said. “While the investigation is still in the preliminary stages, there were no immediate indicators of foul play or any obvious signs of forced entry or a struggle at the scene.”
The autopsies will likely be done by the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office on Friday.
