Daytona Beach, FL – Mark your calendar now if you’re looking to see one of Central Florida’s biggest air shows.

The “Wings & Waves Air Show” held every 2 years by Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is coming again in 2016.

ERAU Interim President Dr. John R. Watret says it’ll take place October 8th and 9th in what the school hopes will be its biggest air show to date, especially with the school celebrating its 90th anniversary and its 50th year in Daytona Beach.

“For the past 90 years, we have helped shape, educate and support the aviation and aerospace industry,” Watret stated. “But the next 10 years will define how we are leading and expanding the industry.”

The weekend event drew over 100,000 spectators in 2014, most of whom gathered around the Daytona Beach Pier to watch the United States Air Force Thunderbirds and other pilots perform aerial tricks and maneuvers.

The 2016 event will once again be centered around the Daytona Beach Pier, with other acts and activities setting up shop at the nearby Hilton and the Bandshell.

All the acts performing in the 2016 show should be announce sometime before the end of the year.

School officials say there will be an extra focus on attracting alumni back to the Daytona Beach campus during next year’s Wings & Waves.

“The ‘Opportunity of the Centennial’ is now,” Watret added. “I challenge everyone to talk to us, visit us and engage with our students, staff and faculty. Come discover how Embry-Riddle is changing the future of aviation on a global scale.”

ERAU originally started in 1926 in Cincinnati and then went to Miami before moving its main base to Daytona Beach in 1965. The school also has residential campuses in Arizona and Singapore as well as an online-based learning program called Worldwide with more than 125 physical locations across the globe.
