Volusia County, FL - A rabies alert has been issued for the areas of New Smyrna Beach and Ormond Beach after two raccoons and a cat tested positive in the past two months.
The cat was found in the parking lot of the Trails Shopping Center on North Nova Road. Anyone who may have had contact with a stray cat in that area from November 2-12 should contact health officials.
The recent rabies alerts are for 60 days and designed to increase public awareness.
The alert is for eastern Volusia County and includes all areas east of I-95.
Persons who have been bitten or scratched by wild or domestic animals should seek medical attention and report the injury to the Florida Department of Health in Volusia County at 386-274-5000 or after hours at 386-316-5030.
