Ormond Beach, FL – A Daytona Beach man is arrested for wrecking his vehicle while driving drunk with 4 people on board, including 3 kids.
57-year-old Kenneth W. Mote was arrested around 8 PM Saturday by the Ormond Beach Police Department following an accident at the intersection of West Granada Boulevard/State Road 40 and South Nova Road.
Mote has since left Volusia County Jail after posting $10,000 bond on 3 charges of child neglect and for driving under the influence.
The details of the accident weren’t mentioned in the arrest report, but it did note that a deputy had witnessed it.
The report also mentioned that Mote’s 46-year-old girlfriend was also in the vehicle along with the 3 kids. Their sex and identities were redacted, but their ages were noted as 14, 12 and 3.
Per the report, Mote’s girlfriend told OBPD that Mote had drunk more than 18 cans of Natural Ice before getting behind the wheel of a red Ford Explorer.
Responding officers found Mote with bloodshot eyes and a “strong” smell of alcohol on his breath.
When questioned, Mote admitted that he had been “drinking all day” and that he’d blow up the Breathalyzer machine because of how much beer he had drank, according to police.
Mote’s blood alcohol content was measured at .206 and .204 once he was taken from the accident scene to OBPD headquarters. That’s well over the legal limit of .008.
Mote also failed field sobriety exercises on scene and was given a ticket for DUI.
The Department of Children & Families was notified of the incident after the kids were turned over to Mote’s girlfriend, per OBPD.
