Palm Coast, FL – A 20-year-old man faces felony charges after deputies say he threw raw eggs and potatoes at them near his Palm Coast home.
Anthony J. Fennick was arrested around 10:30 PM Tuesday at his Richardson Drive home, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
FCSO spokeswoman Laura Williams says 4 deputies were in the R-section investigating complaints from a man living on Ritchie Place about a loud banging sound when they ran into Fennick.
“Fennick asked why the deputies were there,” Williams added. “After getting an explanation, Fennick thanked the deputies and went into his home.”
It was soon after that, however, when one of the deputies found a potato cut in half and lying on the roadway near a patrol car, according to Williams.
“As the deputies were talking, an egg struck the front passenger side door of [an FCSO] vehicle,” Williams stated. “While deputies searched for the food assailant, they noticed 3 more eggs lying broken on the road in front of Richardson Drive, along with a potato and some kind of citrus fruit.”
The egg that hit the window almost hit 2 of the deputies before it hit the window, per Williams.
FCSO says Fennick was the “food assailant”, with deputies finding an egg in his front left pocket once he was spotted hiding near an air conditioning unit at a home on Richelieu Lane.
“A screen surrounding a window had been pried,” Williams said.
FCSO managed to trace the food to groceries found at the home Fennick shares with his mom and stepfather, per Williams.
“A quick examination of a carton of eggs showed that 5 eggs were missing from the dozen, which equaled the 4 eggs tossed at deputies and 1 egg found in Fennick’s pocket,” Williams noted. “Deputies also found 2 bags of potatoes on the kitchen counter along with a serrated knife that had been recently used.”
Fennick did speak to FCSO about the incident, but part of his statement was redacted from the arrest report.
Fennick is held on $7,000 bond at the Flagler County Jail on 4 counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer as well as criminal mischief and loitering/prowling.
