Daytona Beach, FL – The heat wave continues in Daytona Beach, but it apparently won’t be continuing for much longer.
Wednesday’s high of 84 degrees ties the all-time record for the date set in 1968, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.
That comes just days after Daytona Beach had its warmest November on record with an average of 73.4 degrees, per NWS data. That’s nearly 7 degrees above normal and nearly a full degree above the old record of 72.5 degrees set in 1986.
Meteorologists are expecting a cold front to come through the area Tuesday night that will likely stall out just south of Daytona Beach, bringing rain with it for the rest of the week.
Rain chances will hover between 30% and 60% until Sunday while the high will float between the high 60’s and mid 70’s. Lows are expected to stay in the mid to low 60’s during that same stretch.
Because of the stalled front, boating and rip current conditions are expected to be more hazardous as the week goes on.
The heat wave kicked in strong early in November with record-setting heat on 3 of the first 9 days. November 2nd’s high was 90 degrees while November 3rd’s high was 89 degrees. November 9th also set a record high for that date with 88 degrees.
The high set on November 2nd was the first time on record that Daytona Beach got to 90 degrees during that month, according to NWS data.
There was also 2 nights where the temperature tied for the warmest low temperature ever recorded for that date. Those dates were November 8th (71 degrees) and November 18th (73 degrees).
All that heat is helping keep Daytona Beach on track for its warmest year on record, especially considering that NWS expects December to be hotter than normal.
Daytona Beach also had its warmest fall ever in 2015 with an average temperature of 76.2 degrees. The previous mark was 76 degrees set in 1998.
