Daytona Beach, FL-Daytona Beach City Commission Wednesday night tossed around ideas like more police, putting the police mobile command unit on scene and earlier closing hours amid complaints from neighbors about bars along Seabreeze Boulevard.

Commissioners will consider possible changes early next year.

Commissioner Rob Gilliland pushed back at some suggestions last night and predicted “massive layoffs” at the businesses that would be affected.

A neighborhood group representative suggesting Daytona Beach needed to stop being “last call” in the county. Many cities in the county now close their bars at 2 AM. Daytona Beach has last call at 2:30 AM at permitted bars and closing at 3 AM. If that change was approved it would be the first time for the earlier closing in 36 years in Daytona Beach.
