Daytona Beach, FL – A Volusia County high school student is now in custody after authorities say he tried to sell drugs to an undercover cop.

The student – a 17-year-old Ormond Beach resident and a senior at Daytona Beach’s Seabreeze High School – was arrested around 8 AM Thursday as part of a sting operation by the Daytona Beach Police Department.

WNDB News is not identifying the student due to his age.

DBPD Sergeant James Chirco says the drug sting was created in response to complaints from residents who live near the Seabreeze High campus on North Oleander Avenue.

“Undercover units arranged to purchase some marijuana in the rear of [the campus],” Chirco added. “The defendant fled from units and jumped a fence onto Seabreeze High School property.”

Officers chased down and caught the 17-year-old soon after that, according to Chirco.

School officials sent out an automated phone message to all parents explaining what had happened later on in the day, according to Volusia County Schools spokeswoman Nancy Wait.

No students were placed in danger at any point, according to school officials.
