Daytona Beach, FL - Emphasizing that this is only a study at this point, FDOT’s Jennifer Horton is encouraging locals to give their input into the future of the ISB corridor during a meeting Tuesday night at Daytona State College. It’s the second meeting for the ISB Master Management Plan as the study gathers research and drills down on what the future of the busy corridor could look like.
FDOT’s news release says “The purpose of the study is to develop a more comprehensive and up-to-date master plan, including an implementation program, to guide and coordinate safety, transit enhancements, congestion management and economic development investment along the US 92 corridor. The project limits are from Interstate 4 (I-4) to State Road (SR) A1A (Atlantic Avenue) in Daytona Beach.”
In an interview with the Morning Drive on WNDB, Horton talked about plans to do away with those free-flow right turn lanes at the Clyde Morris Boulevard intersection and to put in traffic roundabouts at ISB and Peninsula and ISB and A-1-A. She says recent research has shown those traffic roundabouts are safer than other traffic configurations. Horton emphasized that one of the top study priorities is safety for bicyclists, pedestrians and motorists along the busy roadway.
The event includes an open house from 5:30 to 7PM with a presentation at 6PM. The meeting is at Daytona State College at 1200 West ISB in Building 110 and Room 112.
Maps and drawings will be among the items on display and Horton says the Study Team will be on hand to answer questions.
The study, when complete, will be given to the City of Daytona Beach and the TPO for further consideration.
