Daytona Beach, FL – Investigators are on the case after a body is found floating in the Halifax River.
The Daytona Beach Police Department says a fisherman found the body around 2:30 PM Friday on the 900 block of South Peninsula Drive.
DBPD Sergeant James Chirco says the body was found floating around 20 feet off-shore between the International Speedway Boulevard and Orange Avenue bridges.
“[A Daytona Beach Fire Department] boat was requested and paramedics were able to retrieve an unidentified white male,” Chirco added. “The investigation is just beginning and more information will be released as it is received.”
The victim – believed to be in his 40’s – was likely in the water for some time and had no ID on him, according to officers.
The Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office will be doing an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
No other information has been released at this time by DBPD.
