Daytona Beach, FL – Police say a domestic violence suspect apparently shot and killed himself after stopping his vehicle on Interstate 95 in Daytona Beach.
The Ormond Beach Police Department says that man was discovered dead around 3 PM Friday, hours after he was involved in an incident at the San Marco Apartments off of Williamson Boulevard.
Officers say that man – yet to be identified – was fleeing when he pulled over on I-95 and that he was found dead soon after SWAT units approached his vehicle.
The scene caused authorities to shut down both directions of I-95 at Beville Road around 2:30 PM.
All southbound lanes have since re-opened and 1 northbound lane has as well, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The I-4 eastbound ramp to I-95 north was also closed by FHP as part of the police response. It has since re-opened.
Drivers are encouraged to use US 92 as an alternate.
Huge traffic backups were reported in both directions, including a nearly 7-mile-long backup southbound.
More details as they come in.
