Ormond Beach, FL – A 20-month old South Carolina girl suffered a broken wrist after falling from a second-story condo balcony near Ormond Beach.
Paramedics took the girl to Halifax Health Medical Center for treatment soon after the incident occurred Saturday night at the Court of Palms Condos off of State Road A1A.
A 911 call sent Volusia County firefighters to the condos at 2780 North Ocean Shore Boulevard around 6pm Saturday, according to a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office incident report.
Investigators believe the girl – who was staying at the hotel while on vacation with numerous family members – had followed her grandmother when she went to the balcony to leave some wet towels out to dry.
From there, the girl apparently squeezed her way through the balcony railing supports and fell 10 feet to the asphalt parking lot below, according to the report.
Paramedics thought at first that the child could have had a broken collarbone, but a CAT scan only showed a broken right wrist.
The child was kept overnight at the hospital for observation and to figure out if surgery was needed, per the report.
The report also noted that the spacing between the railing supports was around 3.5 to 4 inches wide and that the state Department of Children & Families was notified.
