Deltona, FL – A 28-year-old Deltona man is in custody after he allegedly beat up the family dog and threatened to do the same to his father.
Christopher L. Sanchez Roman was arrested around 10:45 PM Tuesday at the Newmark Drive home he shares with his parents. As of 3 PM Wednesday, Sanchez is held on $2,000 bond at Volusia County Jail on charges of assault and animal cruelty.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office says deputies went to the home around 9:30 PM Tuesday after Sanchez’s 68-year-old father claimed his son got drunk and started arguing with his mother, also 68 years old.
According to the arrest report, Sanchez’s father told deputies his son was “talking nonsense” and went into the backyard after getting into a shouting match with both of his parents.
The arguing continued after Sanchez’s father saw his son punch and kick the dog “multiple times” while in the backyard, per the report.
Deputies believe Sanchez told his father “shut up” and “you’re next” when he told Sanchez to stop hitting the dog and that’s when both parents left the home and called VCSO.
Per the report, Sanchez’s father claims his son has hit him in the past and that his son was “out of control” when he chased both of them out of the home.
VCSO says Sanchez was found “very intoxicated” on the front porch and damaged part of the front porch screen while deputies placed him in handcuffs.
Sanchez refused to speak to deputies about what happened and was charged after his father insisted on pressing charges, according to the report.
The dog had no visible injuries and was in good health when checked out by deputies at the scene.
VCJ records show Sanchez has been booked there 10 other times since November 2007 on a variety of charges, including domestic battery by strangulation, marijuana possession, carrying a concealed weapon, trying to smuggle a weapon into a prison and aggravated battery on a pregnant woman. He was also arrested in October for driving under the influence.
