Daytona Beach, FL – Passenger traffic at Daytona Beach International Airport is on the upswing as we approach the end of 2015.
The numbers of travelers coming in and out of the Volusia County-run airport went up 4% in November compared to the same month in 2014.
46,182 passengers flew in or out of DBIA in November 2015 while 44,616 passengers did the same the prior November.
DBIA Director Rick Karl says the increase is due to seat capacity increasing 2% because Delta and American – the airport’s only carriers for now – used bigger planes than in November 2014.
“We continue to see the encouraging upward trend in capacity and total passengers,” Karl added. “We expect that trend to continue for our existing carriers and to continue with JetBlue service starting in January.”
92% of available seats were filled in November 2015 for both Delta and American, according to the county.
For the 12 months ending November 30th, 626,312 passengers used DBIA. That’s just below the 627,917 who went through DBIA during the same time period the previous year.
DBIA Director of Business Development Jay Cassens says the airport expects to have anywhere between 250 to 270 extra passengers every day once JetBlue begins non-stop service to New York City next month.
Assuming load factors for JetBlue are at 90%, DBIA projects to have around 98,000 extra passengers a year.
