Orange City, FL – Police want your help to find a man they believe stole the information of over 100 bank customers with a skimming device on an automated teller machine.
The Orange City Police Department release photos to the media Wednesday of the suspect who apparently dropped a skimming device on 2 separate occasions this month at the Suntrust Bank branch on 2602 Enterprise Road. Those photos are posted above and below this article.
OCPD Lieutenant Jason Sampsell says the suspect – described as an olive-skinned man of average build with salt & pepper hair – was caught on the bank’s security video on the afternoon of December 12th and again the following day.
“The male shown in the photos placed a skimming device on the Suntrust Bank walk-up ATM,” Sampsell added. “He was wearing a multi-colored [camouflage] baseball-type hat, black-rimmed glasses, a dark T-shirt and cargo shorts.”
Investigators think that he left the device in place for around 4 hours each time before coming back to retrieve it.
Sampsell noted that the suspect was wearing different clothing when he came to the bank on December 13th.
“He wore no hat [and] had a short haircut and aviator-style sunglasses,” Sampsell stated. “He again wore a dark T-shirt and shorts. No associated vehicle is seen in the videos provided.”
SunTrust personnel later discovered that over 100 accounts had been compromised after some of the victims called them to complain about charges on their accounts that they hadn’t made.
The incident report noted that the bank paid nearly $18,000 in reimbursement to affected customers.
OCPD believes the suspect might be Hispanic and in his 40’s or 50’s. He’s also being investigated in similar incidents at this bank branch this past June.
Anyone with information is asked to call OCPD Detective Ken Jones at 386-775-5478 or 386-804-3317.
