Deltona, FL – A 7-year-old boy is in critical but stable condition after he was hit by a Jeep while trying to cross Courtland Boulevard on foot.
Paramedics took Miguel A. Quiles to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando shortly after the accident took place around 8 PM Saturday in front of a home on the 700 block of Courtland.
Volusia County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Andrew Gant says the boy’s father was across the street helping someone with a vehicle repair when the accident happened.
“Miguel ran across Courtland and was hit by a Jeep sport utility vehicle traveling southbound,” Gant added. “No one else was injured in the crash.”
Charges are pending at this time against the driver of the Jeep, but Gant did note that there’s no sign of alcohol being a factor.
“The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause and circumstances of the crash,” Gant stated. “It is anticipated that Courtland Boulevard will be closed in both directions for several hours.”
