Ormond Beach, FL - Investigators are on the case after 2 Ormond Beach restaurants in the same strip mall are broken into around the same time.
The Ormond Beach Police Department released security video on Tuesday of a man carrying away a safe from Delcato’s Italian Restaurant at 1345 West Granada Boulevard. That video is posted above this article.
Besides taking the safe from an office after he pried that door open, officers believe that man and another man also stole a cash drawer from Delcato’s when they broke in by smashing the front glass door around 4:15am Saturday.
Officers aren’t clear at this point what the suspects used to smash the glass door, but they do think the suspects opted to crawl through the door frame after smashing the glass rather than unlock the front door.
According to the incident report, there was about $300 in the cash drawer and another $1,000 in the safe, which OBPD found later in the afternoon busted open near the intersection of Old Dixie Highway and Roscommon Drive.
OBPD is also investigating a similar robbery that took place around the same time at the Wok & Roll located near Delcato’s.
According to that incident report, the suspects smashed in the front glass door and took a cash drawer as well as ransacked the counter area.
The robbers took around $1,400 in cash and 3 cell phones during that robbery, according to police.
OBPD hasn’t said at this point if both robberies are linked, but the report did note that the Wok & Roll break-in took place sometime between 2am and 4am Saturday.
The suspects in the Delcato’s break-in are described as white males in their mid-20’s and 30’s, with one of them wearing a dark-colored hoodie, dark-colored pants and gloves. The other appeared to be “heavyset” and wearing a light-colored hoodie with light-colored pants and gloves, per the report.
No suspect description was given for the Wok & Roll burglars.
Police in South Daytona and Port Orange are also working similar cases from that same day, according to OBPD Officer Keith Walker.
Anyone with information is asked to call OBPD at 386-248-1777 or Crime Stoppers at 888-277-8477 to remain anonymous and possibly qualify for a cash reward.
