Daytona Beach, FL – Investigators are looking for a man who they say tried to rob a restaurant with some sort of weapon hidden under a shirt sleeve.
The Daytona Beach Police Department says it happened around 1 AM Thursday at the Subway on 213 Mason Avenue.
DBPD released security video of the suspect as he entered the restaurant, spoke to employees and left. That video is posted above this article.
According to the incident report, the suspect is described as a white man in his late 30’s who stands around 5’8 and was wearing a white long sleeve shirt with orange letters, light brown pants and a black baseball hat. He’s of average weight but had missing teeth, slurred speech and a “droopy” face.
Officers say the suspect approached the counter and spoke to a 19-year-old female worker behind the counter, asking her for cookies. It was while she was processing the order that he leaned over the counter with his right hand tucked under the sleeve and demanded all the money from the cash register.
Police believe the suspect was trying to make it look like he had a gun in his hand but the store manager – who was called over to the counter by the female worker during the incident – told officers he thinks all the suspect had in his hand was a curled-up piece of paper.
The suspect – whom the store manager said appeared to be homeless – left with no money or cookies after the manager told him to walk out of the restaurant.
Officers arrived on scene a few minutes later due to the restaurant’s silent alarm being activated while the suspect was there. The area around the front counter was processed for clues, per the report.
