Deltona, FL – The field of candidates vying for Ron DeSantis’ spot in Congress is changing.

David Santiago – the current District 27 member of the Florida House of Representatives – announced on Wednesday that he’s running for the United States House District 6 seat being vacated by his fellow Republican.

Santiago – a former Deltona councilman who has spent the last 4 years in Tallahassee – was on WNDB’s Marc Bernier Show Wednesday to talk about his decision and what his goals will be should he get elected. One of those will be to repeal Obamacare.

The 45-year-old will have to go through at least 2 other Republican candidates in order to get DeSantis’ seat. That would be former New Smyrna Beach Mayor Adam Barringer and Ormond Beach realtor G.G. Galloway.

Also on Wednesday, former US Congresswoman Sandy Adams announced that she was ending her campaign for DeSantis’ seat after having a “serious health issue” that required surgery, according to a press release issued by her campaign.

Fellow Republican state representative Fred Costello of District 25 is also mulling over a run for US House District 6, which covers all of Volusia and Flagler as well as parts of Lake and St. Johns counties. The Ormond Beach resident announced on Bernier’s show recently that he would make his decision once the current Florida Legislature session wraps up in March.

On the Democrat side, another current state representative – District 26’s Dwayne Taylor – is also going for DeSantis’ spot in Capitol Hill. Taylor – a former Daytona Beach City Commissioner – is term-limited in the state House.

3 other Democrats – George Pappas of Daytona Beach, William McCullough of DeLeon Springs and Richard P. Dembinsky of Port Orange – have also filed to run in District 6.

DeSantis is leaving his House seat to go for the United States Senate seat being vacated by Marco Rubio as he runs for the White House.
