Ormond Beach, FL – There’s going to be at least 1 new face on the Volusia County School Board after the November elections.

Former Chairwoman and current District 4 Representative Linda Costello says she will not be seeking another term in 2016 after saying 6 months ago that she would.

In a media release, Costello – the wife of current District 25 state House representative Fred Costello – says she’s stepping down in part because her husband has decided to run for Ron DeSantis’ seat in the United States House of Representatives.

Costello also cited a desire to spend more time with her family during an interview on Monday’s Marc Bernier Show on WNDB, calling it a “bittersweet” moment.

She initially told Bernier during an interview last July that she planned to run again in 2016 even though she hadn’t filed her paperwork to do so with the Volusia County Department of Elections.

But during her interview with Bernier on Monday, Costello said she had second thoughts after her husband decided to go for Congress, especially with the potential impact on her family should he win.

Costello was replaced as the VCSB Chair last November by current Chairwoman Ida Wright of District 2.

Ex-Volusia County Council member Carl Persis – a former principal – is the only candidate who’s filed for Costello’s seat, according to Ann McFall’s office.
