Daytona Beach, FL – Daytona International Speedway officials say the $400 million renovation of the historic motorsports facility is basically finished.

The final results of Daytona Rising will be on display to race fans this weekend when DIS hosts the Rolex 24 At Daytona. It’s the Speedway’s first big race since declaring that construction was finished.

In an interview on Monday’s Daytona’s Morning News show on WNDB, DIS President Joie Chitwood III says there will be a need for some tweaking as everyone – including employees, fans and competitors – gets used to the look and the feel of the new facility.

To celebrate its completion, DIS teamed up with EarthCam to create a time-lapse video showing the entire construction – which took 28 months to do – in about 2 and a half minutes. That video is posted above this article.

“Reimaging an American icon such as Daytona International Speedway has been a journey for all involved and EarthCam’s cameras have been documenting the progress since the groundbreaking,” Chitwood added. “As we approach our first events in the new motorsports stadium, EarthCam’s footage and time-lapse video provide the opportunity for everyone to look back on the construction achievements of this historic project.”

More than 1 million high-definition images were captured by a combination of 8 EarthCam robotic construction webcams and megapixel panoramic cameras to create the video.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of Daytona Rising will take place at 3:30 PM Wednesday in front of the center injector.
