Daytona Beach, FL – A longtime Daytona Beach area commercial realtor is throwing his name into the ring for a spot in the United States Congress.
GG Galloway announced his intention to run for the House of Representatives during Monday’s edition of the Marc Bernier Show on WNDB.
He’s going for the 6th Congressional District seat currently held by Ron DeSantis after DeSantis announced in May that he’s going for the Senate seat being vacated by Marco Rubio as part of his White House run.
Galloway will have to fight off fellow Republicans in former US Congresswoman Sandy Adams and former New Smyrna Beach Mayor Adam Barringer in order to take over for DeSantis.
When asked why he was running, Galloway cited the early success of GOP presidential candidates Donald Trump and Dr. Ben Carson as proof that Americans are sick of “professional” politicians.
“I think I’m no different than the average businessman, the small businessman from Main Street, USA,” Galloway noted. “People have become frustrated with [Washington] DC.”
Like Carson and Trump, Galloway has never held elected office. But he does have experience with the nation’s capital as a political coordinator for the State & National Association of Realtors and he told Bernier that’s helped give him the perspective to represent Volusia and Flagler counties on Capitol Hill.
“For 31 years, I’ve been in this community coaching your children, either in T-ball, soccer, track or Pop Warner football,” Galloway added. “I probably feel like I know the voters of our community better than anybody else.”
Galloway praised DeSantis’ job in Washington, saying he’d make a great replacement for Rubio. But he also railed at a “crumbling” political system in need of serious repairs.
“If you look at the Capitol [Hill] building today, the dome is straddled with scaffolding and tarps,” Galloway said. “Not to make fun of it, but the dome is crumbling, it’s leaking and it’s under major repair. It’s a physical sign of what’s happening in DC right now.”
Galloway feels that Americans are craving business-minded people to take over government regardless of political affiliation and to treat the government more like a business.
To prove that point, he cited not only the early success of Carson and Trump in the polls but also DeSantis and Florida Governor Rick Scott, neither of whom had held office before winning their current jobs.
Galloway also felt his lack of political experience makes him a better candidate that Adams or Barringer and that his time in the community makes him as well-known right now as either of them.
Among the things he plans to focus on is making Congress members live by the laws passed in Congress as well as forcing the government to operate on a balanced budget, changing corporate tax laws to keep businesses at home and lure businesses back to the USA and creating quality jobs instead of raising the minimum wage.
The native Texan also promised to change the way flood insurance works and help pass a bill that would immediately defund sanctuary cities and ship as many illegal immigrants out of the country as possible, but only after the Mexican border is secured with a fence or wall of some kind combined with electronic and satellite surveillance.
Galloway also advocated for a stronger military and berated US President Barack Obama for not projecting enough strength during his time in office, especially in foreign affairs.
He also called for either the removal or severe cutbacks of 3 federal agencies – including the departments of Energy and Education as well as the Environmental Protection Agency – and called both Common Core education standards and Obamacare big mistakes.
