Holly Hill, FL-Police in Holly Hill have a suspect in custody in the robbery today at the SunTrust Bank on Ridgewood Avenue. The suspect is 38-year-old John Hammersley of Flagler Beach.
Police say a white male suspect entered the bank around 10 AM and passed a note to the teller to give him all her money and indicating he was armed. No weapon was seen. The teller complied and the suspect left on foot.
Police with Air One and K-9 searched the area but didn’t find the suspect.
A bit later, a taxi driver reported picking up a fare that matched the suspect description and dropping him at 8th and Ridgewood. Police went to the area and saw a man matching the suspect description leaving the Fountain Inn. The man tried to run but was caught by K-9 just after 11 AM. Police say Hammersley confessed to the crime and money from the robbery was found inside his motel room.
Hammersley is being treated for a dog bite from the K-9.
He will be booked into the VCBJ on $20,000 bond.
